Acupuncture for Nausea and Vomiting in West Sayville, NY
Nausea from chemotherapy and other causes can make it hard to eat and recover. Acupuncture may help ease nausea as a complement to the medications your care team prescribes.
What the research says
A Cochrane review found acupuncture-point stimulation helped reduce acute vomiting during chemotherapy when added to anti-nausea medication. Ezzo JM, et al. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2006
NCCIH reports that acupuncture may help with nausea and vomiting from cancer treatment. NCCIH, Acupuncture: Effectiveness and Safety
If you are in active cancer treatment, please check with your oncology team before your first visit.
What to expect
Sessions can take up to 60 minutes. You rest on a padded table while thin needles are placed at targeted points. You should experience little to no discomfort. A plan of 6-8 sessions over several weeks is common, depending on your condition and goals.
Acupuncture works alongside, not in place of, care from your physician. Results vary from person to person.
